NRA Personal Protection In The Home
Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for the safe and efficient use of a firearm for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense.

This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning defensive shooting, basic defensive pistol skills, firearms and the law, strategies for home safety, responding to violent confrontations, and live fire exercises to practice and demonstrate defensive pistol skills. Students learn to develop a proper mindset for using a firearm for personal protection and facing a life-threatening encounter. This course requires the student to be an experienced shooter. Proof of shooting experience includes the NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, other forms of proof are available. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection in the Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Personal Protection In the Home Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

All firearm handling and shooting is closely supervised and professionally managed at all times. Class lecture time is conducted indoors in a comfortable learning environment. Instructors are NRA Certified Instructors and active members of Sacramento County Firearms Education and Safety Council.
Classroom time six hours.
Range time two hours.

Students bring pistol, strong hip holster, ammunition (200 rounds), personal protection, knee pads, water and lunch. Instructional materials and targets are provided.
